FRITZ!Box 7390 – Service

Registering a DECT repeater from another manufacturer with the FRITZ!Box

You can register any commercially available DECT repeater from another manufacturer with the FRITZ!Box to extend the range of the FRITZ!Box's DECT radio network.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • A maximum of six repeaters can be registered with the FRITZ!Box.
  • FRITZ!DECT repeaters and/or FRITZ!Boxes can no longer be registered in DECT repeater mode.
  • All repeaters must be registered with the base station ("star topology"). A repeater cannot be registered with another repeater (cascading).
  • You will no longer be able to use various convenience functions with your FRITZ!Fon. A list of these functions can be found here.
  • A maximum of two telephones within the reception area of the repeater can ring.

Note:On the other hand, telephones within the reception area of the base station always ring.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Disabling encryption

At least one cordless telephone must be registered with the FRITZ!Box in order to configure these settings:

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Enable the option "Permit non-encrypted DECT connections" in the "Security" section.
  4. Click "Apply" to save your settings.

2 Deleting telephones

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Cordless Telephones" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Click the corresponding button (Delete) to delete all of the cordless telephones that are registered.

3 Registering a DECT repeater

In order to allow a DECT repeater from another manufacturer to register with the FRITZ!Box, you just have to enable the option "Permit non-encrypted DECT connections" in the DECT settings of the FRITZ!Box. The entire registration will then be performed by the repeater. The FRITZ!Box is not notified when a repeater registers with it:

  • Register the repeater with the FRITZ!Box as described in the repeater's manual.

Note:Hold down the "DECT" button on the FRITZ!Box during the entire registration procedure.

    • If repeater registration was unsuccessful, then the automatic registration procedure used by the repeater does not work with the FRITZ!Box. To our knowledge, a Gigaset repeater can only be automatically registered with Gigaset base stations:
      • Contact the repeater's manufacturer and ask how to register it with the FRITZ!Box. It may be possible to register it manually instead of registering it automatically.

4 Disabling security against eavesdropping on FRITZ!Fon

The setting "Secure" on FRITZ!Fon is a security function enabled in the factory settings that prevents unencrypted connections from being established in order to prevent calls from being tapped. Since DECT repeaters from other manufacturers never encrypt the data they transmit, you must disable this setting on the telephone so that you can make calls using the repeater:

Important:If you disable the "Secure" setting on FRITZ!Fon, calls are no longer encrypted!

  1. Press the "Menu" key on the telephone.
  2. Scroll to "Settings" and press "OK".
  3. "Telephony" > "OK"
  4. Deactivate the "Secure" setting.

5 Re-registering all telephones
