FRITZ!Box 7360 – Service

Using FTP in the home network to access USB storage devices connected to the FRITZ!Box

Computers in the home network can use the FTP protocol to access USB storage devices connected to the FRITZ!Box.

1 Accessing USB storage devices via FTP

Here we show you how to configure FTP access in the Windows Explorer using Windows 8 as an example:

Note:Refer to the manufacturer for information on the procedure for a different operating system. With macOS, you have only read permission on the FTP server. If you would like to also have write permission for FTP servers in macOS, use an FTP client (for example Cyberduck or FileZilla).

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + E.
    • The Windows Explorer opens.
  2. Click "Computer" in the menu bar, then click "Add a network location" and "Next".
  3. Click "Choose a custom network location" and then "Next".
  4. Enter ftp://fritz.box in the field "Internet or network address" and click "Next".

Important:If the FRITZ!Box is configured as a wireless repeater or an IP client, enter the IP address at which the FRITZ!Box can be reached in the home network instead of fritz.box.

  5. Disable the option "Log on anonymously".
  6. In the "User name" field, enter the name of a FRITZ!Box user who is authorized to access FRITZ!NAS contents and click "Next".

Note:You can edit the access rights of FRITZ!Box users under "System > FRITZ!Box Users" in the user interface.

  7. Enter a name of your choice in the field "Type a name for this network location", click "Next" and then "Finish".
    • The "Log On As" window opens.
  8. In the "Password" field, enter the password of a FRITZ!Box user who is authorized to access FRITZ!NAS contents.
  9. Enable the option "Save password" and click "Log On".
    • Now a window displaying all NAS contents available on the FRITZ!Box opens.

Note:A shortcut to the USB storage device is automatically created in the Windows Explorer under "Network Location" and also in the navigation area under "Computer".
