FRITZ!Box 7330 – Service

Restricting wireless access to known devices (MAC address filter)

The FRITZ!Box's wireless network (WiFi) is already protected against unauthorized access by individual wireless security settings in its factory settings. With the FRITZ!Box's MAC address filter you can also specify which wireless devices are allowed to connect to the FRITZ!Box. Since wireless devices transmit their unencrypted MAC addresses in each data packet they send, attackers can easily determine a MAC address that can be used to login. Therefore, the MAC address filter alone does not provide sufficient protection from undesired access and is only suitable as a supplementary measure for secure wireless encryption.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • The MAC address filter does not apply to wireless devices that use the FRITZ!Box's wireless guest access.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Enabling the MAC address filter

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Enable the option "Do not allow any new wireless devices" in the "Restricting Wireless LAN Access" section.
  4. Click "Apply" to save your settings.

Now only wireless devices listed in the "Restricting wireless LAN access" section are allowed to connect to the FRITZ!Box's wireless network.

2 Adding a new wireless device

When the MAC address filter is enabled, you can disable it briefly so that the FRITZ!Box can automatically add the MAC address of a wireless device, or enter the MAC address manually:

Adding the wireless device automatically

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.

  4. Click "Apply" to save your settings.
  5. Connect the wireless device to the FRITZ!Box's wireless network.
  6. Enable the option "Do not allow any new wireless devices".
  7. Click "Apply" to save your settings.

Adding the wireless device manually
