FRITZ!Box 6840 LTE – Service

Cannot access the Internet with Windows over wireless connection

A Windows computer cannot access the Internet although it is connected with the FRITZ!Box's wireless network (WiFi) and can access the FRITZ!Box user interface.

One or more of the following error messages is displayed in the "Network and Sharing Center" of the computer:

  • "Access: Local only"
  • "Access type: No Internet access"
  • "Unidentified Network"

Important:Some of the settings described here are only displayed if the advanced view is enabled in the user interface. The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the issue persists.

1 Checking the FRITZ!Box's Internet connection

  • Check whether wireless devices, such as a smartphone, or devices connected via LAN can use the FRITZ!Box's Internet connection.
    • If Internet access via LAN or with other devices is possible:
      • Proceed with the following section.
    • If the FRITZ!Box cannot be used to access the Internet:

2 Enabling the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server

The FRITZ!Box is configured as a DHCP server in the factory settings. If you disabled the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server, configure the following settings:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
  4. Click the "IPv4 Addresses" button.
  5. Enable the DHCP server and define the range from which the FRITZ!Box assigns IP addresses.

    Note:The FRITZ!Box has the IP address (subnet mask and assigns IP addresses from xxx.20 to xxx.200 in the factory settings.

  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

3 Configuring the computer as a DHCP client

To ensure that the computer always uses the correct IP settings, make sure that it is configured as a DHCP client (this is the standard setting for most operating systems):

4 Installing the latest driver for the wireless network adapter

  • Install the latest driver for your computer's wireless network adapter.

    Note:Should you have questions, consult the manufacturer of the wireless network adapter.

5 Configuring the computer's firewall

A firewall is preventing the computer from obtaining its IP settings from the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server:

  • Configure the firewall on the computer so that it allows connections from the computer to the FRITZ!Box. Refer to the manufacturer of the firewall for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.
