FRITZ!Box 6840 LTE – Service

Using a PlayStation 4 in the FRITZ!Box home network

Note:Here we show you how to connect a PlayStation to the FRITZ!Box using Sony PlayStation 4 (system software 1.75) as an example.

Important:Some of the settings described here are only displayed if the advanced view is enabled in the user interface. The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS.

1 Preparations

Enabling the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server

The FRITZ!Box is configured as a DHCP server in the factory settings. If you disabled the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server, configure the following settings:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
  4. Click the "IPv4 Addresses" button.
  5. Enable the DHCP server and define the range from which the FRITZ!Box assigns IP addresses.

Note:The FRITZ!Box has the IP address 192.168.178.1 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) and assigns IP addresses from xxx.20 to xxx.200 in the factory settings.

  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Preparing the FRITZ!Box for WPS

The FRITZ!Box is already prepared for WPS in the factory settings. If you changed the FRITZ!Box's wireless settings, configure the following settings:

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Click on the "WPS Quick Connection" tab.
  4. Enable WPS.
  5. Select "Push-Button method (WPS-PBC, Push Button Configuration)" and click "Start WPS".

2 Connecting the PlayStation to the FRITZ!Box

Important:Make sure that there is no network cable connected to the PlayStation.

  1. Click "Settings in the PlayStation's menu.
  2. Click "Network" in the "Settings" menu.
  3. Enable the option "Connect to the Internet" and click "Set Up Internet Connection" or "Configure Internet Connection".
  4. Click "Use Wi-Fi".
  5. Click "Easy".
    • You will now see a list of wireless networks within range of the PlayStation.
  6. Click "Set up using WPS button" under the list of wireless networks.
  7. Push the "WLAN" button on the FRITZ!Box for about 6 seconds until the "WLAN" LED on the FRITZ!Box starts to flash.
    • Now the configuration of the wireless connection is complete and the connection is established.

Connecting the PlayStation using a network cable

  1. Use a network cable to connect the PlayStation to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Box.
  2. Click "Settings in the PlayStation's menu.
  3. Click "Network" in the "Settings" menu.
  4. Enable the option "Connect to the Internet" and click "Set Up Internet Connection" or "Configure Internet Connection".
  5. Click "Use a LAN Cable".
  6. Click "Easy".
    • Now the PlayStation checks the network environment and the Internet settings are updated.

Now the PlayStation is connected to the Internet via the FRITZ!Box. The PlayStation can then be used to join online games or use the Sony Entertainment Network to access the movie, television, or music services in the Internet, for example.

Hinweis:Weitere Informationen zur Einrichtung erhalten Sie von Sony, z.B. auf der PlayStation Internetseite.

3 Setting up port sharing for online games

By default, the FRITZ!Box's firewall protects all of the devices in the home network from incoming connections and unsolicited data from the Internet. However, this may cause problems with certain online games (for example FIFA 17) because other players from the Internet must be able to access it.

Setting up automatic port sharing

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Connections" tab.
  4. Click the button (Edit) for the device you would like to configure.
  5. Enable the option "Permit independent port sharing".
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Setting up static port sharing

If you still cannot connect to online games or the connection drops, configure the required port sharings manually:

    • For example, FIFA 17, the football simulation game, requires the following port sharings:
      • TCP-Ports: 80, 443, 1935, 3478-3480, 3659, 10000-10099, 42127
      • UDP-Ports: 3074, 3478-3479, 3659, 6000

Note:With just a few clicks in the Internet you can find lists of ports used by other games such as Battlefield, Call of Duty, Starcraft & Co., for example at www.portforward.com.
