Blocking YouTube in the parental controls

The FRITZ!Box parental controls also allow you to block access to YouTube. To also block smartphones and tablets from accessing YouTube, you must block all addresses used by YouTube or the YouTube app. Proceed as described in this guide.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to FRITZ!OS 6.83 or later; they may differ or not be available with older FRITZ!OS versions. You can find the version of FRITZ!OS on the "Overview" page of the FRITZ!Box user interface.

1 Adding YouTube to the blacklist

YouTube can be accessed through various web addresses. To block access to YouTube, you must therefore block all addresses used by YouTube:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Lists" tab.
  4. Click the "Edit" link next to the entry "Blocked web sites (blacklist)".
  5. Enter the following web addresses (as of November 2017) in the field and press Enter or the space bar after entering each address:

Note:Google tells you which addresses must be blocked in their guide Restrict YouTube content on your network or managed devices.

    • youtube.com
    • youtube.googleapis.com
    • youtubei.googleapis.com
    • youtube-nocookie.com
  6. Click "OK" to save the list.

2 Enabling the blacklist for an access profile

Enable the blacklist for the access profile you assigned to devices that are not allowed to access YouTube:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Access Profiles" tab.
  4. Click the button (Edit) for the access profile you would like to configure.
  5. Enable the option "Use of guest access blocked".
  6. Enable the option "Filter web sites".
  7. Enable the option "Block web sites (blacklist)".
  8. Click "OK" to save the access profile.

Now YouTube is blocked in the parental controls. Restart the FRITZ!Box or briefly switch wireless LAN off and then on again so that the restriction also applies to devices that accessed YouTube while you were configuring it.
