Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a cable connection

The FRITZ!Box Cable is optimally prepared for use with a cable connection. You simply have to connect it to the multimedia outlet and ask your provider to unlock it, and the complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for Internet, telephony, and multimedia is then available to all devices in your home network without restriction.

If you would like to use your FRITZ!Box with one of the following cable providers, please follow the instructions that apply to your provider:

If you are using your FRITZ!Box with a connection from a different provider, please proceed as described in the following guide.

1 Unlocking your FRITZ!Box

  • Ask your cable provider if your FRITZ!Box must be unlocked before using it with your cable connection.
    • With some providers, the serial number and MAC address of your FRITZ!Box's cable modem (CM MAC) are required to unlock it. You can find these on the sticker on the underside of the device.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to the cable connection

  • Connect the FRITZ!Box to the cable connection. You will find detailed instructions on the installation poster included with the FRITZ!Box and in the manual.

Note:If a cable technician performed the original installation, use the coaxial cable (without an extension) provided by the technician to connect the FRITZ!Box with the first multimedia socket, or the one used by the technician.

3 Configuring Internet access

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password printed on the sticker on the underside of the device and click "Log In".
  3. If the menu "Set up Internet Connection" is not displayed automatically:
    1. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
    2. Enable the option "Internet connection via cable".
  4. Wait until the "Power / Cable" LED remains lit.

Important:Depending on the signal strength and the way your connection is configured, this may take up to 10 minutes. During this time, the "Power / Cable" LED flashes and then stays lit as soon as the connection has been established. If the LED flashes continuously, then the cable connection has not been activated yet or the service is disrupted. In this case, contact your cable provider.

  5. If your cable provider did not unlock the FRITZ!Box yet:
    1. Open a new window in your web browser and call up a web page of your choice, for example en.avm.de.
      • Now you will be redirected to your cable provider's portal for unlocking your FRITZ!Box.
    2. Follow the instructions given and make note of the account information for your telephone numbers, if they are displayed during the unlocking procedure.
  6. Click "Apply" or "Next" in the FRITZ!Box user interface to save the settings. Restart the FRITZ!Box to complete the configuration of your Internet connection.
