Setting up group switching for smart home devices

You can combine multiple smart home devices into a group and then switch them together.
Devices with outlet switches, for example FRITZ!DECT and FRITZ!Powerline, can be switched together manually or automatically, and you can combine individual switching options with each other.
Radiator controls can also be combined into groups, so that you can switch several heaters in one room together, for instance.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Creating a group

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the "New Group" button.
  4. Select the device type ("Switching Actuators" or "Radiator control") that you want to combine into a group and click "OK".
  5. Enter a name for the group and select the smart home devices you would like to switch together in the group.
  6. Click the "OK" button.
    • The group is created.
  7. In the next window, click "OK" to save the settings.

2 Switching a group with switching actuators

Several switching options are available for devices with outlet switches, so-called "switching actuators"; these options can also be combined. For example, if automatic switching is enabled for a group, then the group can also be switched manually if required:

Switching a group automatically

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Select the option "All groups" in the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the button (Edit) for "Group switch" that corresponds to the group you would like to configure automatic switching for.
  5. In the "Automatic Switching" section, select the option "Switching a Group Automatically" and configure the desired switching times.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Switching a group via a "Master"

You can define a smart home device as the so-called "Master" that can be used to switch the entire group on or off. The device does not have to belong to the group you would like to switch:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Select the option "All groups" in the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the button (Edit) that corresponds to the group you would like to configure switching via a "Master" for.
  5. In the "Automatic Switching" section, enable the option "Switching a Group via a FRITZ! actuator ('Master')" and select the device you would like to use as the "Master" from the drop-down list "Actuator".
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.
    • Whenever the "Master" is switched automatically or manually, all of the devices in the group it belongs to will be switched as well.

Switching a group manually

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the on/off switch for "Group switch" in the section "Group [name of the group]".

Note:In your home network you can also use the menu of your FRITZ!Fon (under "Home Network" > "Smart Home") to manually switch the smart home group, or you can use MyFRITZ!App to switch it manually over the Internet.

If you also set up automatic switching for the group, then the automatic switching will once again take effect for the group as soon as the next automatic switching time for the group occurs.

3 Switching a group with radiator controls

When group switching is enabled, you can manually switch individual smart home devices on the device itself, or you can use the FRITZ!Box user interface (in the "Home Network" menu under "Smart Home". As soon as the next group switching takes place, the device is then once again subject to the group switching settings.
