FRITZ!Box 3390 – Service

Using Xbox One in the FRITZ!Box home network

You can easily connect an Xbox One to a LAN port or the wireless network (WiFi) of your FRITZ!Box. The Xbox can then access the Internet and be used to join online games or for chats with Skype.

Important:Here we show you how to connect an Xbox One to the FRITZ!Box using the Microsoft Xbox One with operating system version 6.210210.0 as an example.

Important:Some of the settings described here are only displayed if the advanced view is enabled in the user interface. The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS.

1 Preparations

Enabling the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server

The FRITZ!Box is configured as a DHCP server in the factory settings. If you disabled the FRITZ!Box's DHCP server, configure the following settings:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Home Network Overview" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
  4. Click the "IPv4 Addresses" button.
  5. Enable the DHCP server and define the range from which the FRITZ!Box assigns IP addresses.

    Note:The FRITZ!Box uses the IP address 192.168.178.1 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0) and assigns IP addresses from xxx.20 to xxx.200 in the factory settings.

  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Configuring the Xbox as a DHCP client

  1. Push the menu button on the Xbox One wireless controller.
  2. Select "Settings" and then "Network" in the Xbox menu.
  3. Select "Advanced Settings".
  4. Select "IP Settings".
  5. Select "Automatic".

2 Connecting the Xbox to the FRITZ!Box

Connect the Xbox to the FRITZ!Box's wireless network, or connect it to the the FRITZ!Box using a network cable:

  • Use a network cable to connect the Xbox to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Box.

Connecting the Xbox to a wireless network

  1. Push the menu button on the Xbox One wireless controller.
  2. Select "Settings" and then "Network" in the Xbox menu.
  3. Select "Setup wireless network".
  4. Select the name of the FRITZ!Box's wireless network (SSID).

    Note:You will find information on determining the FRITZ!Box's wireless settings in this guide.

  5. Enter the FRITZ!Box's network key and confirm the entry.

Now the Xbox is connected to the Internet via the FRITZ!Box. The Xbox can then be used to join online games or for chats with Skype, for example.

3 Setting up the FRITZ!Box for Internet access to the Xbox

By default, the FRITZ!Box's firewall protects all of the devices in the home network from incoming connections and unsolicited data from the Internet. However, in order to use certain online games (for example Call of Duty) and individual chat functions, other users from the Internet must be able to access your Xbox.

The following steps are only necessary if you are experiencing problems with joining online games or chats:

Disabling the Teredo filter in the FRITZ!Box

The following step is only necessary if the FRITZ!Box is connected with the Internet using Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6):

Note:You can see whether an IPv6 Internet connection is active on the "Overview" page of the FRITZ!Box user interface under "Connections".

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Lists" tab.
  4. Disable the option "Teredo filter enabled".
  5. Click "Apply" to save your settings.

Setting up port sharing in the FRITZ!Box

  • Set up the FRITZ!Box for automatic port sharing so that the Xbox itself can open the ports in the FRITZ!Box that are used by the online game or chat function,
    • or:
  • Set up static port sharing in the FRITZ!Box for the ports and IP protocols used by the online game or chat function.
